Mom, you might want to skip this one....

Mike was out mowing when all the sudden he busted into the kitchen, grabbed the tongs, and ran out.  Of course I grabbed my camera and ran after him.  The neighbor kid saw him running and started running after him too.  This is what all the hubbub was about:

Poor Torch now lives in the butterfly garden we've had for many years.  It has housed all kinds of creatures in its day.  It has a hole in the side, which Mike patched.  So the only thing between us and Torch is a piece of duct tape and a couple safety pins.

I am picturing the parade of people running to the snake...

Sounds like a great story for a children's book!

I was excited when you said Mike got the tongs...then giggled when I saw the size of the snake. 8-) I have fostered many Garter Snakes...feed him worms. For his size small night crawlers or red wigglers will work well. They can get out of very small openings...and the cats will kill him, but since he will taste very bad to them - they will leave a partially eaten carcass for you (if they catch him). And yes, I know this from first hand experience too. LOL
