Big eater
I'm continually amazed at how much Noah can eat. I cooked him a very large pork chop, and he scraped it down to the bone and then sucked on the bone.
Carrying on without me
When Sarah gets up in the morning, she always makes a beeline straight to me. This morning I was up before she was. Since she doesn't do anything quietly, I easily heard her get up and go into my room looking for me. I was struck with the impish idea to hide from her and see how she reacted. So I hid and heard her coming down the hall, looking in the living room, school room, and kitchen. She said "Huh, no Mom" in a totally uninterested way. Then she went to the pantry, got herself some fruit snacks and a granola bar, and turned on the TV.

Bass Pro day
![]() |
getting bored waiting to catch a fish
She caught the first crappie of the day.
Bored again waiting in line for spinner rod lessons.
Noah did a great job casting with the spinner rod!
On to the shooting range. She knows she's supposed to squint one eye, but isn't sure why.
She didn't shoot anything. She says the gun was too heavy.
I'm pretty sure I laughed right out loud when I took this.
She ended up dancing around with the gun. All the animals were safe.
Noah, on the other hand, killed a beaver and some deer.

Field trip to the sugar grove
Beautiful day for a field trip.
Sarah doing her turkey impersonation in the nature center.
Running to their next learning station
Smelling the boiling sap
We finished our picnic lunch early, so there was time to jump off things.
Noah with a background of prairie and sugar bush.
Sarah giving a tree presentation before the official presentation.
Boy in a barn.
Long hike to the bush.
Looking for the perfect tree to tap.
Measuring the circumference. This one was 79" around, big enough to support two taps.
The chosen tree.
Looking to see if the branches are healthy.
They each took a turn using the brace and bit to drill a hole into the tree.
Sarah hung the bucket, and the sap was running.
Sugar bush.
Free one-ounce container of syrup to take home. They drank theirs on the way home.

C is for cookie
I had a plan for the day, but I scrapped it in favor of Sarah's plan: making cookies. We put lots of love in them, so they should be delicious.
You might recall the hate cookies we made last time. These things are apparently indestructible. We threw them out on the patio for the wildlife, but even the wildlife was repulsed by them. They would make good little postal workers, because they've persevered through rain, snow, sleet, and wind.
We danced around the kitchen singing Cookie Monster's "C is for Cookie" song. Noah was singing too, even though he wasn't involved in making the cookies. He said, "I don't even like that song, but now it's stuck in my head." I know the feeling.

Serving her brother the special cookie she made for him.
Sarah told me, "Don't be afraid to get your hands messy, Mom. That's what it's all about!"

Cushions
They never tire of playing with couch cushions and pillows. They've been doing it for years. I actually kept a list of all the things they've made from our couch. There are 73 items on the list! Only now we don't call it "playing with cushions" anymore. We call it "Arcitectural Studies".
