Field trip to the sugar grove

Beautiful day for a field trip.
Sarah doing her turkey impersonation in the nature center.

Running to their next learning station

Smelling the boiling sap

We finished our picnic lunch early, so there was time to jump off things.

Noah with a background of prairie and sugar bush.

Sarah giving a tree presentation before the official presentation.

Boy in a barn.

Long hike to the bush.

Looking for the perfect tree to tap.
Measuring the circumference.  This one was 79" around, big enough to support two taps.

The chosen tree.

Looking to see if the branches are healthy.

They each took a turn using the brace and bit to drill a hole into the tree.

Sarah hung the bucket, and the sap was running.

Sugar bush.

Free one-ounce container of syrup to take home.  They drank theirs on the way home.

Looks like fun! They host a family camp weekend in the summer I was going to take the girls to last year but it was really hot. I've never been there yet.

That is so cool! I've always wanted to do that... it's just like Little House in the Big Woods!! :)
