ERT- day 1

Mike and I are on the epic road trip (ERT) we've talked about doing for years!

8:00 a.m.--leaving home.  Van has 99,524 miles on her.  She'll reach 100K on this trip, maybe even today.

8:30 a.m. Stopped at CEFCU to get Mike's mug.

8:45 a.m.  Back on the road, discussing brain transplants.  Saw a weird alien-looking load on the back of a semi.

10:30 a.m. Mike: "What's wrong with people? You can't use a turn signal?!"

11:45 a.m. GAS at Road Ranger in Elk Run Heights, Iowa.  $1.99/gal x 10.4 gal = $20.80. Employees and a few customers wearing masks, but not everyone.

12:00 p.m.  Eating on the road the lunch I packed yesterday.

2:30 p.m.  The GPS just told Mike to continue on U.S. 20 West.  He said to it, "Where else am I gonna go?"  There's absolutely nothing out here.  No gas stations or even billboards.  Just fields.  We had a nice chat all morning, catching up.  Listened to Andrew Wommack this afternoon.

2:45 p.m. GAS at the 4-Way Stop Shop in Moville, Iowa.  $1.98/gal x 9.96 gal = $19.82.  Windy, hot, humid.  Nobody wearing masks, not even the employees.  They had some bins of 5 cent candy that reminded me that I used to get penny candy at the grain elevator in Trivoli in the summer.

3:00 p.m. Mike quote: "Western Iowa's not great.  Pretty much the whole state smells like pig." We are driving right along the Missouri River and can see Nebraska on the other side.

3:15 p.m. Just crossed the South Dakota border, and the van hit 100,000 miles.  Speed limit is 80.

4:15 p.m. Arriving at Baymont Hotel in Sioux Falls, SD.  We're playing the license plate game, where we try to find a license plate from every state.  We saw plates from 22 different states today.
